Canton BE
In the city of Bern and its surroundings, 30 April and 31 October are customary. In the other municipalities of the canton, common overviews list every month-end except 31 December; if in doubt, ask the municipality or the regional conciliation authority. Termination dates stated in the lease take precedence over customary dates. The notice period for flats is at least three months (Art. 266c CO).

Regional conciliation authority
The canton of Bern has four regional conciliation authorities: Bern-Mittelland (Bern), Bernese Jura-Seeland (Biel), Emmental-Oberaargau (Burgdorf) and Oberland (Thun). In tenancy matters they sit with one lay judge each from the tenant and landlord side, and offer free legal advice on tenancy law. Conciliation proceedings in tenancy matters are free of charge (Art. 113 CPC).
